This piece is Bermel's first commission. The commissioner specifically requested that the work be a march suitable for both wedding and a funeral. It was orifinally titled 'Brine's March'. When it was to be performed for the first time it had the title 'Ides March' as humorous nod to the Shakespearean admonition
'Beware of the Ides of March'.

Premiere performance by H. Robert Reynolds and the University of Michigan Symphony Band.
